Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are an important part of our liturgical ministry. In addition to bringing the Sacrament of the Body and Blood of Christ to the people of God, EMHC's witness to faith in the real presence of Christ by their actions and by the dignity and reverence with which they treat the Body of Christ.
“In this ministry, you must be examples of Christian living in faith and conduct; you must strive to grow in holiness through this sacrament of unity and love. Remember that, though many, we are one body because we share the one bread and one cup. As ministers of holy communion be, therefore, especially observant of the Lord’s command to love your neighbor. For when he gave his body as food to his disciples, he said to them: This is my commandment, that you should love one another as I have loved you.”
(Book of Blessings: Commissioning of Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (Chapter 63)
Those who fulfill this ministry are to be fully initiated, active members of our parish. EMHC's are Catholic lay people in good standing with the Church who desire to serve their brothers and sister in feeding the faithful with the Body and Blood of Christ.
