The birth of a child is an event to be celebrated! The Catholic Church welcomes children through the waters of Baptism. In our Baptism we are washed from the stain of original sin, we recieve the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, and we are incorporated into the Church, the Body of Christ.
Because of the importance of a life of discipleship, parents who present their child for Baptism should be actively particiapting in the life of the Church themselves. This means regularly particpating in Sunday Mass, being a registered member of the parish, and supporting the Church through time, talent, and treasure.
In order to prepare for this important moment, we ask that all new or expectant parents participate in a Baptismal Preparation Session. These sessions are offered once each quarter on a Sunday morning at 9:15am (between the 8am and 10:30am Masses) in Gannon Hall.
2024 Dates:
April 21 9:15 AM Gannon Hall
Godparents are an important part of a baptized child's life. The Godparent's job is to assist the parents in modeling what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ. In order to fulfill this role, a person must:
have recieved all three Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Communion)
be an actively practicing Catholic, registered and participating in the life of a parish

If your child's Godparents are not members of Saints Mary and Mathias they will need to secure a letter from their pastor testifying that they meet the requirements listed above.
